Classic car enthusiasts around the world love good ol’ American muscle. Although most experts acknowledge that the Oldsmobile Rocket 88 was the first American muscle car, the classic Muscle Car era truly began in 1964, with John DeLorean’s infamous Pontiac GTO. American muscle cars are reminiscent of a time when V8 engines and horsepower ruled the streets, and gas prices were actually affordable. Whether you’re a diehard Chevy fan, or a Ford loyalist to the end, one thing is undeniable – muscle cars are a coveted piece of American history.

That said, America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington has recognized the auto community’s affinity for muscle cars, and has proudly created an impressive display of 20 classics from this unique era. The American Muscle: Rivals to the End exhibit features stunning classics such as a 1969 427 Yenko Camaro, a 1969 Dodge Super Bee, and a 1970 Buick GSX. And in response to an overwhelming reaction to this exhibit, the museum has added an extension that is sure to please…

American Muscle: Modified Madness is an extension that features even more classic muscle cars from 1964-1972, but with a twist. The vehicles in this exhibit are all restomods, pairing classic muscle with modern technology and customized body work. A few gems in this collection include a 1964 Buick Skylark with a Corvette LS2 engine and Tremac 6-speed transmission, and a 1966 Chevy Impala with carbon fiber gauges and a modified 468cid V8.

American muscle cars have become favorites of many restomod builders today, and for good reason. These cars were made to go fast, to be driven. The innovative combination of new and old brings them into the modern era, with creature comforts and performance. If you’re anywhere near Tacoma, Washington this December, we highly recommend a visit to America’s Car Museum!
