The automotive industry has lost numerous manufacturers over the years. Recently, well known marques like Mercury, Plymouth, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac joined the likes of defunct American manufacturers Packard, Studebaker, Willys, Hudson, Kaiser, DeSoto, and Erskine, as well as foreign brands including MG, Hillman, Austin Healey, and Triumph. These companies succumbed for various reasons: high production costs, market conditions, design challenges, even management issues. Although these marques are gone, their “orphan” cars are not forgotten. “Studebaker Steve” Broock has organized a group of orphan car enthusiasts to show off their classic cars and trucks at the April 17, 2016 Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show. Spectators will get the chance to see a variety of 1972 and older examples from many of these brands, as well as others. No doubt it will be a fascinating display of cars that you just don’t get to see every day. The group’s vehicles will be on display on the Main Aisle of the Classic Vehicle Car Corral, so be sure to stop by and check out these discontinued classics.

Studebaker Steve is a member of the Beach Cities and Los Angeles chapters of The Studebaker Drivers Club. He would like to invite all orphan car drivers to the 9th Annual Orphan Car Night at Irwindale Speedway, on June 11, 2016. The day’s festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Cabrera’s Mexican Restaurant, 1856 East Huntington Drive, Duarte. Calif. There will be some visiting and tire kicking, lunch, and then a cruise to Irwindale Speedway, 500 Speedway Drive, Irwindale, Calif., where the orphan vehicles will take a couple parade laps around the track prior to the night’s racing. If you would like to be included on Studebaker Steve’s Orphan Car Event List, call (909) 973-6955 or email [email protected] for more information.
