Interest\u00a0in America’s\u00a0classic car market is running high, and in May over 20,000 car enthusiasts\u00a0set an attendance record at\u00a0Auctions America’s\u00a0Auburn Spring<\/a> event in Auburn, Indiana. \u00a0Attendees included many first-time bidders, and bidders\u00a0from seven countries and thirty-eight\u00a0states. \u00a0In fact, over one-fourth of the bidders were bidding at the auction for the first time. \u00a0Over 770 vehicles crossed the auction block… and over 87% of the lots sold, generating over $19.1 million in sales! \u00a0Auctions America claims that’s a 70% increase over their 2013 sales.<\/p>\n

The John Scotti Collection<\/strong><\/p>\n

The event delivered some strong results. \u00a0The John Scotti Collection, of over 400 vehicles, was offered without reserve. \u00a0A 1934 Chrysler Custom Imperial Airflow from the Scotti assortment sparked a bidding war, thanks in part to its superb condition. \u00a0Offered without a reserve, the winning bidder paid $213,400!<\/p>\n

The collection, from Montreal, Canada, also contributed an enticing 1987 Buick GNX with less than 100 original miles. \u00a0That highly-esteemed performance car garnered $100,100. \u00a0Another classic from the 1980s, a 1989 Ferrari Testarossa, brought $84,150.<\/p>\n

Additional Six-figure Sales<\/strong><\/p>\n

One unique vehicle not associated with the Scotti Collection sold for over 150 grand. \u00a0It was a 1962 Chevy Impala SS 409 that had been raced in the 1962 Indy Nationals. \u00a0It’s said that it had hardly been touched since then. \u00a0The final price for the gorgeous Impala was $151,250. \u00a0Also in that ballpark was a dynamic red and ivory 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible that went for $148,500.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a 1967 Corvette 427\/435 went for $137,500, and a 1960 Mercedes Benz 190 SL brought $145,750. \u00a0All in all, it was a good auction for classics from the ’60s, with a 1965 Sunbeam Tiger Roadster the focus of another bidding contest that took its final price all the way to $88,000.<\/p>\n
