Some classy women are doing more than just cruising in their classic cars… they’re using their hobby to support local charities.

The Chrommettes of America is a not-for-profit car club for women only. Established in 1993, the club has over 40 members across the United States. Members own a variety of classic cars, from a 1966 Mustang 2+2 to a 1977 Pontiac Formula, and even some older classics, including a 1939 Ford Deluxe Coupe. The ladies love muscle cars with plenty of shiny chrome and lots of horsepower. They often dress the part, wearing poodle skirts, pony tails, and saddle shoes to different events. Flamed high heels, customized by famous pin-striper Herb Martinez, are a favorite among this group. Several members do their own body and engine work. But, they also enjoy work of another kind… each year they hold an annual car show to benefit a different charity. This year’s event, on August 17th, benefited the Ronald McDonald House.

The Lady Luck Car Club, based in Oakland, California, is for West Coast women who own their own rides, know what’s going on under the hood, and know how to fix things when they go wrong. Classic cars must be pre-1969. They cruise to shows in a ’49 Kaiser Traveler, a’65 Galaxie, a ’67 Chevelle Malibu, a ’59 Edsel, a whole host of other desirable classics. The Club also has their very own pin-up troop, which models for pin-up products such as calendars, posters, and postcards. Profits fund the Help Our Heroes project, to assist military veterans who are aging without much recognition or help.

The Pink Slips Car Club, with chapters throughout the United States and Canada, is for women who love classic cars and want to make a difference. Cruising in their classic cars, such as a ’63 Falcon or a ’61 T-Bird, isn’t just for fun… they’re on a mission to help children, some with life threatening illnesses. Auctions, car shows, cruises, and sock hops are among the fundraisers put on or attended by the “Ladies in Pink.” These women raise thousands of dollars for children every year.

We applaud the women of these car clubs for not only supporting our hobby, but for extending their support to those who need it most! If you belong to a car club and your club would like to visit the Pomona Swap Meet, give us a call at 714-538-7091. We look forward to hearing your story!
